Nothing else like it!

Well we made it! Since 2006 Sprott House has been undergoing a major reconfiguration of the site.

We can now proudly show off our 30 superior hospital rooms, a stunning 24 bed purpose built dementia unit, a five bed roomed married couples unit as well as a new reception a new laundry and a fantastic training/seminar function centre.

We have also almost finished re-carpeting our 29 single rooms in our North wing hospital and re-painted all of the bedrooms within this unit!

It is now time to enjoy the environment and experience the unique quality of care we are able to offer our residents without the noise of hammers. There’s nothing else like it in New Zealand!

Jane Verity coming to Sprott!
As you know, Sprott House has adopted the Spark of Life Programme for all residents with dementia. This award winning programme developed by the Founder and President of Dementia Care Australia Jane Verity (OTR FT CSP), a world leader and pioneer in the social and emotional care of people with dementia.

We therefore have great pleasure in letting you know that Jane is visiting us next week and will making a presentation to which we are delighted to invite all families, staff and other interested people.

Originally from Denmark, Jane is an occupational and family therapist, a master practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). She has also been appointed as the Eden Alternative Mentor for all the Nordic countries.

Jane is an outstanding speaker with a delightful, inspirational way of sharing information and, I can assure you, you are in for a real treat! Please join us if you can on Thursday 29th July at the Sprott House Training Centre at 9.00am. The programme will run from 9.00am (registration) to 3.30pm, with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea included. There’ll be plenty of time to ask Jane questions and we hope as many as possible will attend.

To book your place please confirm with Carole Hazelman, by email, or call her on 4768759 or 0272664845

Duncan Lodge Update
The final touch to Duncan Lodge Dementia unit has been installed with our beautiful fireplace in the lounge area. This makes Duncan Lodge really warm and cosy especially on these exceptionally cold evenings and mornings!

We also have two new family members
- two budgies, purchased with funds given to Sprott house by the late Graham Jackson. Our Duncan Lodge residents will have the exciting task of naming the birds.

A Great Place to Shop!
The new Sprott House “Four Square” shop Is now up and running. You can buy all sorts of things including fruit juice, tissues, biscuits, fruit and other daily essentials. This is a really great addition to our services as it means residents can top up before their regular shopping expedition.

A big thanks to our Support Services Manager and our Kitchen Manager for getting this up and running!!

There will be a special evening arranged for all families to come along and meet Danny informally over a cup of tea.

Radio and Television Live…
Appearance on Insight
Sprott House have recently taken part in Insight - a documentary programme on the Radio New Zealand programme. Recently, there has been an important focus on this programme about the effects of dementia and its insufficient funding in New Zealand. Carole Hazelman spoke live about this topic, in particular about problems with funding and the fact that although Sprott House, as a Trust, has been able to develop it’s own fabulous Duncan Lodge, it is not easy for other facilities to be developed or maintained due to the lack of money available.

If anyone who would like a copy of the Part 1 and Part 2 Documentary, please let Judi at reception know and we will provide you with a free copy.

Television Advertisement launched
Our first television advertisement was launched this month which is VERY exciting.

It’s playing on Prime in some great spots but if you haven’t seen it you can click here and watch it on YouTube >>
