Q. Is there a waiting list?
A. There is a waiting list of people not requiring immediate admission but who have requested we keep them in mind.

As rooms become available we contact those on the waiting list to discuss their needs.

Q. What personal belongings may I bring?
A.
Stage II and Stage III residents are encouraged to bring personal items such as an armchair, ornaments, photos, TV and paintings. The bed and linen are provided by Sprott. Continuing Care (Hospital) residents may bring a TV ornaments and photos.

Q. Do you take residents shopping?
A
. Yes. There is a weekly shopping trip, usually to the Karori Mall and surrounding shops, where there is a very good library and several cafes as well as two supermarkets, a shoe shop, chemist etc. Sometimes the shopping trips go further afield depending on requests and demand.

Q. May I have my own private phone?
A
. Yes. This should be organised by yourself, relative or agent through Telecom. There are telephones throughout the house for residents use.

Q. May I have Sky?
A
. Yes. This should be organised by yourself, relative or agent through Sky.

Q. Which doctor will visit me?
A.
Your own General Practitioner may continue to look after you at Sprott House (if she/he is within reasonable travelling distance) or the Sprott House doctor will attend to you. Our doctor is part of the Karori Medical Practice, just a few minutes away from Sprott House and by the Karori Mall.

Q. Do you have registered nurses on staff?
A
. Yes. We are legally required to have a certain number of registered nurses according to resident numbers but we have more than that requirement. As at June 2008 we have six registered nurses on day and three on at night. Our Geneeral Manager, Clinical Nurse Manager and Quality Health and Staff Development Manager as all registered nurses.

Q. Can I get my own paper?
A.
Yes. The Dominion Post or Sunday Times may be ordered through the office.

Q. Is there a government subsidy?
A.
Yes. A residential care subsidy is available for those who meet the criteria. WINZ has a printed leafet which explains this and you can contact them for a copy by calling 0800 999727 or checking their website here.

Q. Are there many organised and social activities?
A.
Yes. Activities such as exercise classes, educational lectures, visits to concerts, clubs, theatre and cinemas, shopping and many others are organised regularly both in-house and external. You can take part as often or as little as you want!

Q. What are the visiting hours?
A
.There are really no set visitor hours - your family and friends can visit at any time.
